After enduring the traumas and heartbreak of growing up in colonial Australia, at 70 years old, Uncle Wiruungga is not slowing down by any means. He continues to embody, teach, and preserve traditional culture through art, dance, storytelling, and bush medicine.
Wiruungga is looking to get his bus back on the road for the next big adventure. He offers to plant gardens, share medicinal knowledge, and support women and children in remote communities of the northwest of Australia.
I first met Wiruungga at a local farmers' market in late 2022 on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. At that time, I asked him if he was interested in doing a podcast, to which he agreed and proceeded to verbally tell me his address. I quickly forgot his address on that humid December morning, but soon I found him again on social media.
I want to give a shout-out to Wisdom Keepers on Instagram for the great work they are doing. Because of them, I was able to track down Wiruungga and make this episode. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed making it!
