Ancestral Living in a Modern World, a container that brought together four elders from different parts of the world.
In this special episode of The Way of Life, we are joined live from the heart of the Colombian Amazon by Fernando Choa — a native wisdom keeper, historian, and writer of ancestral knowledge. Born and raised in the Amazon, Fernando is a descendant of Nṫmaizaṫ (the Herb of Wisdom) and Nonuia (Achiote), from the Uitoto people.
Together, we explore the deep teachings of the jungle: the sacred origins of life, the responsibility of the human word, the power of thought, and what it means to truly live in harmony with nature. Fernando shares powerful insights into the role of plants as teachers, the slow process of earning the right to serve medicine, and the importance of honouring life through ceremony, food, and prayer.
This episode is a call to remember what it means to be human. It’s an offering of Indigenous wisdom for a world in crisis, inviting us all to return to our centre, to our relationships, and to the Earth.
Highlights include:
Why everything in the jungle is considered medicine — even the wind and sun
The dangers of misusing sacred plant medicines and the value of slow learning
How to cultivate inner harmony through connection with nature
Ancestral perspectives on meat, prayer, and sacred reciprocity
A reminder that we are all one family — across lands, languages, and lineages
This conversation concludes our Ancestral Living in a Modern World series. If this episode resonated, leave a comment and let us know — would you like to hear more from elders like Fernando? Let’s keep this bridge of wisdom open.
